On 8 November 2019, the Education, Youth, Culture and Sports Council held a historic joint public policy debate between the Finance and Education Ministers in Brussels to discuss the future of education and training in Europe. On the agenda were amongst others sessions on “A strong economic base for Europe: Pursuing effectiveness, efficiency and quality of education and training” and “Artificial Intelligence in education and training”, as well as the adoption of Conclusions on “The key role of lifelong learning policies in empowering societies to address the technological and green transition in support of inclusive and sustainable growth” and the “Resolution on further developing the European Education Area to support future-oriented education and training systems”. The discussions stressed the Council’s ambition to increase its investment in education and training and took concrete steps in setting the European priorities for education and training for the future.
