Teacher Acquisition

Supporting experienced professionals in accessing the teaching profession in vocational education and training

2024 – 2026

Overview of the project

The Teacher Acquisition project is a two-year Erasmus+ co-funded initiative aimed at addressing the teacher shortages in vocational education and training (VET) across Europe.

The project is formed by a consortium of partners from several EU countries, GO! onderwijs from Belgium, MBO Raad from the Netherlands, ETBI from Ireland, CECE from Spain, ANESPO from Portugal, Lithuanian VSA, and the Association of Secondary Schools Slovenia.

The primary goal is to support industry professionals in transitioning to the teaching profession within VET by researching alternative pathways and equipping them with the necessary competences. This initiative seeks to fill the gaps in the current research on VET teacher shortages and to propose actionable solutions to attract and retain qualified teachers from various professional backgrounds.

By identifying and sharing successful methods from multiple EU countries, the project aims to empower the involved organizations and foster collaboration between VET providers and employers. A significant focus will be on creating a competence framework for VET teachers, specifically targeting hybrid teachers and second-career professionals. Additionally, the project will develop an induction programme curriculum to facilitate the transition of industry professionals into teaching roles, alongside practical guidelines for school leaders and policy recommendations to support the implementation of innovative practices across the EU.
